Fujiyasu Jun (born 1981, Tokyo) has explored identity and relationships with others through his experience as a twin. His works include his debut work, DZ dizygotic twins (2007), which juxtaposes close-up photographs of himself and his twin brother, 34 (2009), where he photographed his father using similar techniques with the theme of time and memories, and empathize (2012), where he photographed other twins in their rooms or other memorable places.
This exhibition displays Layered Lights, which was photographed using a different method from his other series, in the library corner. “Light,” mentioned in the title, creates color, lightness, darkness, and shadows, enabling us to perceive things. Photography cannot exist without light. Through this fundamental element of vision, Fujiyasu reexamines the meanings of "seeing" and "being."
Books also deeply influence our thoughts and emotions. Light and books can be seen as different methods we can use to understand the world. In this exhibition space where these two elements intertwine, they may appear to be independent at first glance, but they influence each other to reveal new connections and meanings. This transformation challenges viewers’ perceptions and awareness of “existence.” Although we tend to view things from a single point of view, observing multilayered colors might offer a perspective that touches on that essence.
Please enjoy the experience in this space where light and books resonate with each other.
