Takamatsu Contemporary Art Annual vol.09
Takamatsu Contemporary Art Annual vol.09 Imagine the presence of ‘Time.’
“Takamatsu Contemporary Art Annual” has been held since 2009 as a group exhibition for contemporary art to discover and introduce outstanding artists with originality and potential.
In the year 2020, which marks its 10th anniversary, the theme of the exhibition is “Imagine the presence of ‘Time.’”
What is “time?” We cannot see it nor touch it, but humans have been aware of its existence since prehistoric times by the movement of the sun and moon. In this regard, time seems to be moving irreversibly from the past to the present and into the future. On the other hand, in our conscious minds, we move freely through time, tracing our memories or envisioning the future, and we have the power to “imagine” the invisible.
It is said that humans acquired the power of “imagination” about 70,000 years ago, around the time of the last ice age on earth. Our ancestors, awakened to their new abilities, invented needles and threads and created what may well be called religion and art. This power that sprung from the harsh environment must have the strength to break through adversity and pave the way for the future. It is precisely now when we are faced with unprecedented situations, that the power to “imagine” is needed more than ever before.
In this exhibition, we will “imagine” the various “time” through the artistic expressions of the five artists (Cagiu Aya, Inoue Sayuki, Goto Akinori, Yasui Tomotaka and Onishi Yasuaki).
Through the different expressions and approaches of “time,” we hope to provide an opportunity not only to follow materialistic information, but also to contemplate on what exists beyond on the other side that are invisible to our eyes.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the artists who participated in this exhibition, to all the owners who lent us their valuable works, and to all those involved for their immense contributions to this exhibition.
