Œuvre gravé Salvador Dalí
SPECIAL
November 12(Sat)-December 18(Sun),2016
Salvador Dalí, one of the foremost artists of the twentieth century, was born in 1904 in the small town of Figueres in Catalonia, Spain. After studying at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, Dalí became acquainted with Picasso, Miró, Breton, and others and joined the Surrealist movement. He established the method that came to be known as the “paranoiac critical method,” originating a special style of his own involving double images and precise expression. Throughout his life, Dalí explored the world of dreams, hallucinations, and the unconscious, reflecting them in the prints that he made, as well. His prints bear images peculiar to Dalí, derived from his paintings, such as The melting watch, Deformed bodies, and The elephants. In addition, there are many illustrations that he created for literary texts and the like. This exhibition contains 200 works of Dalí’s mature period and his later years: woodblock prints, copper plate etchings, and carvings.
