Nanchang is located 826km southwest from Shanghai, and has a population of 4.8 million, and the area is 7,402km squared (the city center is 617km squared.) It is the capital of Jiangxi province, acting as the center of government, business, science, and cultural activity for the province. A river and a lake surround the city. Since establishing friendship city relations, a variety of activities have been held, including several goodwill missions, exchange of various research students, visits from junior high school groups, exchange of students, and product trade fairs. In 2009, the two cities will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their friendship city agreement.
